Teresa Staal-Cowley
My earliest memories are being passionate about drawing when I was preschool age. I took my first art class when I was ten years old and continued taking art classes in junior high, high school, college and ongoing workshops. I am known as a Mixed Media Fine Artist, Calligrapher, Face Painter and Mixed Media Calligraphy Art Teacher. I am a regular demonstrator of Mixed Media Calligraphy Art at the Washington State Fair. I also advocate for children in Thurston County Family Juvenile Court often incorporating the arts in my advocacy for them. I have served on Art Committees for Thurston County Juvenile Court, Saint Peter’s Providence Hospital in Olympia Grays Harbor Hospital in Aberdeen, Scripps Hospital in San Diego County and Washington Department of Health in Tumwater. I was active in my child’s activities as an artist in their schools, service organizations and religious organizations. I have four grown children who have their own growing families. I taught all of my children art and calligraphy when they were little. I grew up and raised my children in the beach communities of Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego counties before my late husband passed and moved to the Pacific Northwest the end of 2004. I moved here on the urging of a friend who lived here and for the college preparation programs for teenagers. My husband and I are both widower and widow and were married in 2008. My husband never had children and became a great addition to our family. He was born and grew in Cody, Wyoming and has influenced me as a Western Artist.
