Carla Morrison
I love to create art filled with light and emotion. I paint in many mediums, including oil, acrylic, watercolor, and even pastel. I will even combine mediums to create the effect I’m looking for. I believe that the first priority in a painting is to express myself; the medium used does not matter and is often dictated by the subject matter or the effect I’m looking for.
I have an advertising art degree and have spent many years doing freelance graphic design. I also owned my own Faux Painting business for 15 years and painted numerous murals and decorative finishes using plaster, wax, and many different glazing effects. My mentor was my grandfather-in-law, Fred Oldfield. A very accomplished western artist. He inspired and encouraged me to continue to pursue my creative artistic side. I have also taken numerous classes and workshops throughout the years with many different local and international instructors. I love a good workshop and attend at least a couple a year. I believe every instructor has something to share and I always come away improved in some aspect of my artistic knowledge or skills.
Recently, I devoted myself to painting full time and finding my voice and style within my art. I recently moved to SE Alaska because of the inspiration all around me. The many moods of the weather, the water, and the forest continually inspire me. My husband and I also love to travel and I find inspiration within the experiences, photos, and quick watercolor studies I do when traveling. I am especially fond of the Southwest, the Grand Canyon and the red rocks throughout Arizona and Utah.
