Susan Swapp

Sue received her basic art education at the Art Instruction School of Minneapolis. Education in art is always ongoing as new paints and techniques become available.

The Pacific Northwest ,which offers an abundance of nature and wildlife, is a perfect place to observe the beauty of mountains, lakes, rivers, and the ocean. Cross the mountains and experience the drier landscape of the arid terrain. The diverse wildlife throughout the state offer views of their everyday antics and habits of survival. The photographer can capture so much of this life. Painting lets us enhance, rearrange, and perfect that view.

Sue has painted in the basic mediums of oil and watercolor, but is currently working in either acrylics or pastel. Her love of doing fine detail lets her give the viewer a precise vision of a moment in time.

“I have seen much of our great country and the world while traveling with my Navy husband . After 23 years of travel we came back ‘home’ to live in the Pacific Northwest.”

Sue’s art is in collections in Europe, Canada, and throughout the U.S. Her work has been accepted in many juried shows, and she has won multiple awards for her work, including museum awards and “Best in Shows”. Sue has been asked to participate in many individual shows and festivals. Her work is currently being shown at Gallery North in Edmonds and The Gallery of Ocean Shores, where she has taught Pastel classes.

She has greeting cards which show the wide range of her images at Watermark Book Company in Anacortes.
“I have been able to participate in the Oldfield shows for numerous years. What a special place to be – surrounded by high quality art, good music, and a wealth of special people!”

Sue’s originals are all custom framed, and giclee prints are custom printed for her. She also paints on glass and tiles now to offer small originals for the smaller home. She has done selected commissioned pieces.

Sue is a signature member of the Northwest Pastel Society. She was also selected to participate in the second edition book, “Artists of the West”. Sue can be often be seen as an Artist in Action at the galleries she shows in and as a Plein Air Painter throughout the area.
